Hello,

"thanks for getting in touch. I am delighted that my efforts are being well-received and have become the subject matter for photographers."

"Well, I'm not one for wordy rhetoric. God knows there's enough of that around the art world!"

"I would be happy to say simply that my works are intended to operate on a number of levels of interpretation, and if the public simply see a beautiful horse, or an evocative human figure then that's fine".

"If however they pick up the deeper narrative or symbolism relating to a particular sculpture in a certain location, that's even better".

"I believe in draughtsmanship and dexterity in public art, and am pleased that my efforts within those disciplines seem to pass into a sense of collective ownership and pride in the sculptures in their environments".

"I am always keen to see how photographers capture my efforts, as I am the world's worst photographer and should definitely stick to hammers and welders".

I work mostly with metals - steel mainly. I enjoy the drawing and the draughtsmanship that's involved, the dexterity that's required. The way I work is fairly unique, although I'm by no means the only guy working with steel this way, but on the scale that I do it, it's become very recognisable and a bit of trademark and I'm very happy with that. Now I'm beginning to push the technique in different ways and introduce different methods to achieve it and it's working well.

It's just playing with visual ideas.

Sculpting free-form. I do sketches initially for the client, but thereafter I'm making it up as I go along.

If I was given the chance to create anything I liked anywhere in the world, it would be a statue of Denis Law at Hampden Park. A real hero outside the national stadium that summed up Scottish football, or maybe a whole avenue of great players from the past. Maybe Rod Stewart or Billy Connolly would like to put up the money. I'd be very happy with that.

In the meantime thanks again for getting in touch and good luck with your future photographic projects.

All the best for now,

Andy Scott
